DILLSBURG, PA - Kyla Miller Foundation, a not-for-profit
organization joining in the fight to end pediatric brain
cancer, announces a partnership with Artworks Studio in
Carroll, Iowa, to supply the foundation with the Heart
of an Angel bracelet.

Inspired by the courageous journey of Kyla Miller, a
local East Berlin girl that lost her battle with brain
cancer just before her tenth birthday, Laura Comito –
sister of KMF Board of Directors member and Kyla’s
oncologist, Dr. Melanie Comito – designed a sterling
silver and genuine Swarovski crystal bracelet that
represents Kyla’s essence and presence in the lives of
those who knew her and as an angel in heaven. The center
of the bracelet is a sterling silver cube etched with
Kyla’s heart on four sides. The cube is surrounded by
two pearls, symbolizing Kyla’s wings, followed by a gold
spacer on each side, representing Kyla’s halo. The
bracelet then includes ten purple Swarovski crystals,
representing the ten years of Kyla’s life, separated by
clear Swarovski crystals and sterling silver spacers.
Carroll, Iowa, is a typical mid-western town near the
western border or Iowa. There are few opportunities for
local charity sponsorships. The town participates in
Relay for Life with the American Cancer Society and
supports some other nationally recognized charities, yet
Laura Comito, owner of Artworks Studio, wanted to do
something more to help others in need. Comito’s sister’s
role as Kyla Miller’s pediatric oncologist at Penn State
Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Kyla Miller
Foundation board member gave her an opportunity to do
just that. In the fall of 2008, Dr. Comito spoke to
Laura about Kyla’s personality and journey and asked if
she would be willing to design something that would
represent Kyla that the foundation could use as a
signature selling item. The design is perfect.
Kyla Miller Foundation president, Stephanie Miller,
says, “Pictures just don’t do the bracelet justice. It
really is an amazing symbol of Kyla’s life. I’m amazed
that Laura was able to design a bracelet that embodies
Kyla’s spirit without even knowing Kyla. It just
demonstrates that Kyla’s story can touch the heart of
strangers to be inspired to create something really
beautiful. I’m very excited about this partnership with
Artworks Studio. So excited that I’ve asked Laura to see
what she can come up for other pieces that compliment
the bracelet.”
The foundation sold out of their initial order of
bracelets in just one week. More are on order and are
available in different lengths starting at $35.00 each.
50% of the cost of each bracelet goes towards the
foundation’s mission of ending pediatric brain caner.
